Barra Fishing in Australia

There are very few fish species that excite the professional anglers of Australia. Barramundi is one species that really gets them going as this fish puts up a good fight till the end.One of the better table fish found in Australian water, the barra as it is fondly called is famous for its aerobatics when hooked. Bonefish is another favorite species of anglers in Australia but we will mainly discuss about the barra.

Bonefish

Barramundi fishing mainly takes place in the creeks, rivers and bays in clear or turbid waters. You can fish barra on the Northern as well as the Southern coast of Australia.

It grows to the extent of 1.8 m or 60 kg but a barra is caught in the range of 70 cm to 1.2 m weighing in between 10 to 20 kg. Catching a barra less than 55 cm is considered illegal in the territory.

Fishing barramundi is most productive in warmer water when the temperature and level of humidity increases. Another best time for Barramundi fishing is when the wet season winds down but is illegal in some parts of Australia to catch a barra during the wet season.

The most interesting part about a barra is the breeding story that goes with it. These fishes are all born as males and at around five years of age transform in to females for breeding. After growing to maturity in the upper reaches of fresh water they migrate downstream. The young barras are mottled brown with a white strip running through and the adult ones are blue to green-grey with silvery sides and white bellows.

This time, Richmond visits the Arnhem Land Barramundi Nature Lodge; he all on a sudden bumped across the website http://www.anglingadventures.com and decided to visit there.

Exmouth fishing The primary reason is, of course fly fishing, the reason, the vast aboriginal stretch of northern providence of Australia, the vast reserve of the testy barramundi and several other fishes are there. Richmond got a 10 kg barramundi out of his fishing. A great experience altogether. The staffers in the lodge have agreed to offer the dressing the preparation.
